The Atkins Diet has gone through a lot of criticism lately because of its somehow radical methods to weight loss. Many experts believe that the Atkins Diet may have harmful effects on the body because of the diet regimen that one has to go through.The Atkins Diet is primarily a low carbohydrate, high protein and fat diet that to not seem to go well with its critics.

First of all, they say that going on a low carbohydrate diet may disturb the body’s system of getting its energy. Short term, they say that it won’t affect the body by depriving it of carbohydrates. But long term, they say that it might have some harmful consequences. Some also say that having a high protein diet may also have some negative effects on the body as it can be a cause for the body to lose some calcium from the body and may cause osteoporosis later on.

But the most concern for experts about the Atkins Diet has been its high intake of fats that is part of the regimen. They say that a high intake of fat and doing it for long periods of time may increase the likelihood of stroke, cancer and in developing heart disease. They say that the Atkins Diet encourages people to eat fatty foods that may prove detrimental to the health of an individual.

Whatever others may say about the Atkins Diet, a lot of dieters are living proof that such a diet is truly effective in losing excess weight. The reason for this is because the Atkins Diet has made the body to change into burning fats instead of carbohydrates as its primary energy source. The burning of fats for energy require more body processes to achieve than burning carbohydrates for fuel. In this way, the body loses more heat or calories while burning fat.
