The kidney is one of the vital vertebrate organs in the body. Thus, we must protect it from dysfunction that may result from food intake, and its excesses. The amino acid (proteins) and fats are vital in growth and development of cells and tissue of every organ in our body. If the body does not receive carbohydrates to be burned into fuel for our energy, it will burn the proteins and fats, to fill this up, thus depriving our body of the vital elements in body reconstruction.
Much burning of proteins and fats will accumulate ketones in the body, and if ketones develop to extreme proportions, it endangers health and will cause death. Practically, the kidney and liver are most vulnerable in the ketone mass, which increases because of the process that turns proteins and fats into fuel for energy.
As a fact, it is understood that ‘protein’ was never meant to fuel us with energy, but for rehabilitations and repairs. Hence, it is necessary for growth and development of children and adolescents.
