Protein High Food for the Atkins Diet

Recent studies have shown that more people are getting overweight every year. This happens not only to adults but even to kids who have just started school.

A lot of factors cause this to happen such as genetics, overeating, the type of food taken into the body and as people age, the metabolism slows down making it harder than before to burn the food that was just consumed.

There are many ways to solve this problem. Some have decided to undergo surgery, while others have decided to change the dietary intake and exercise. One form, which has been used since 1972 until now is the Atkins diet.

Some people believe that the reason why people are overweight is because of eating too much food that contains carbohydrates. The Atkin’s diet offers people a healthier lifestyle as it uses a low carb diet in making weight loss happen. The body takes in food and converts carbohydrates and fat into energy. The first that the body taps for this is carbohydrates. By switching this with food that has more protein and fat, stored fat in the body is burned thus making a person lose weight.

Eating high protein foods can be fun. All it takes is making it into a dish minus the amount of carbohydrates that were once there.  A good example is making a Grilled Portabello Mushroom Salad with Gorgonzola Dressing. By mixing all the ingredients together and cooking it, the usual carbohydrate intake that used to be 57 can reduced to 8 by just taking out the fiber.

Tofu is another example of a high protein food. By cooking it properly, carbohydrate intake that used to be 26 can reduced to just 4 once the fiber has been taken away from the food. High protein food can also be a combination of fish and vegetables. By cooking fish and tuna together properly, carbohydrate intake that used to be 2.26 can reduced to .928.

Meat can also have high protein intake even if it comes from pork chop. By slicing away the fat before cooking it, carbohydrate intake that used to be 3.6 can be reduced to 2.8. All it takes is taking the fiber away from the food.

There are many other recipes and cookbooks written by many people who are also doing a high protein food diet. Should one decide to do this, it does not mean one should give up on a certain food group since a good and balanced diet comes from all the food groups. Each of these has its share of vitamins, minerals and fiber. A lot can come from oats, rice, potatoes and cereals. The best still come from vegetables and fruits since these have phytochemicals, enzymes and micronutrients that are essential for a healthy diet.  

Diets that work for one person may not work on another so it is best to consult a dietitian before starting one. After all, even something as simple as jogging or working out in a gym should be consulted to a doctor. This is to ensure that your body can take the pressure of a high-protein diet.

Perhaps the best secret of losing weight is to eat smart. Having a good best exercise plan that involves cardiovascular and weight training exercises is another. Both help burn calories and increase the muscle to fat ratio that will increase ones metabolism and lose weight.
