Diet Hazards From Low Carb Diets
Recent studies have shown that more people are getting overweight every year. This happens not only to adults but even to kids who have just started in school.
A lot of factors cause this to happen such as genetics, overeating, the type of food taken into the body and as people age, the metabolism slows down making it harder than before to burn the food that was just consumed.
There are many ways to solve this problem. Some have decided to undergo surgery, while others have decided to change the dietary intake and exercise.
Some people believe that the reason why people are overweight is because of eating too much food that contains carbohydrates. This have prompted people to come up with solutions to fight this problem such as the Atkin’s Diet in 1972, Protein Power in 1995, the Schwarzbein Principle in 1999, Life without Bread in 2000 and the South Beach Diet that took the world by storm in 2003.
All of these want to provide people with a healthier lifestyle as it uses a low carb diet and sometimes having a person eat small amounts of food more than 3 times a day which will make weight loss happen.
The body needs nutrients to keep it going. These are namely carbohydrates, fat and protein. This comes from food that is eaten and the first that the body taps for energy is carbohydrates. By switching this with food that has more of protein and fat, stored fat in the body is burned thus making a person lose weight.
Studies have been conducted in the past to see how well the low carb diets work versus other kinds that are available. One group focused on a low carbo diet while the other focused on low fat. The studies have concluded that people can lose more weight faster by using a low carb diet. One other benefit of using this method is that it increases the level of triglycerides and good cholesterol in ones system.
Though the group involved for the study was small, some doctors have already expressed concern. Some claim that eating food that has more protein can do damage to the health of the bone in the long run due to an increase in the amount of calcium in ones system. Other doctors claim that by taking away most of the fiber in food, this could lead to complications in the liver or kidney as well as heart disease.
There have been no short term major problems to date which result from taking low carb diets. Since there have been no studies yet to confirm such claims, scientists and people who have lost weight have acknowledged the effectivity of the program.
Doctors have promised to study the long terms effects of these diet programs to further assess the safety it has to people who wish to use it.
Going on a diet does not mean one should give up on a certain food group since a good and balanced diet comes from all the food groups. This is because each of these has its share of vitamins, minerals and fiber. A lot can come from oats, rice, potatoes and cereals. The best still come from vegetables and fruits since these have phytochemicals, enzymes and micronutrients that are essential for a healthy diet.
Eating smart is one way of losing weight. Having a good best exercise plan that involves cardiovascular and weight training exercises is another. Both help burn calories and increase the muscle to fat ratio that will increase ones metabolism and lose weight.
Diets that are effective for one individual is not a guarantee that it will work for another person. It is best to consult a dietitian and a doctor before starting one.
